benefits of spray foam insulation

superior rvalue

Spray Foam Insulation has one of the highest Rvalues per inch of material in the construction industry. While this is amazing news for you building there has been lots of misunderstanding surrounding the topic of R-Value. A great article called The R-Vaue Myth points to the importance of an airtight seal even above R-Value.

Air tight

Conventional insulating systems like Batt and Poly and Fiberglass loosefill Insulation must have a vapor barrier to prevent moisture as well as air from migrating in and out of your building. A 6 mil sheet of plastic is all that stands between the outside environment cold, heat, air pollutants and allergens. Any rip or hole in the plastic from construction or even hanging a photo allows cold air into your home. Closed Cell Spray Foam Insulation creates ai airtight seal and a vapor barrier all in one. The foam fills gaps and cracks and stops air infiltration.

Mold Resistant

Mold can damage both health and home and can cost thousands of dollars to remediate. Mold in your building needs 2 things to grow. Moisture and air. Because Closed Cell Spray Foam keeps air outside the building envelope unlike conventional insulation systems, it drastically reduces the occurrence of mold.

Structural Improvements
If you have ever wondered how you can tell the difference between open cell spray foam and closed cell spray foam, this should help. If you take your fingers and push against open cell spray foam, your fingers can quite easily dig into the foam. This is not possible with closed cell. In fact, closed cell spray foam was shown to add 300% strength to the shear value of a 2x4 wall cavity. This added strength protect the investment in your home or building and reduces building movement that can lead to cracks in drywall.

Frequently asked questions

Spray Foam R value in Canada must be quoted according to the LTTR (Long Term Thermal Resistance) This is the value of the foam aged over time. Most foam in Canada has a R-value between 5.6 to 6.8. R-values of 7 and over are not using LTTR.

Yes. In Canada, Spray Foam Installers must be certified to install the foam in buildings where people will live or work.
